Experience
When it comes to tutoring elementary and middle school students, I believe that an organized student is a successful student. In my six years of teaching experience, I found that learning new material became easier and more fun when students were taught organizational strategies and tools. My students in first, second, third, and fifth grades were also able to sharpen their skills in math, science, writing, and reading comprehension as they discovered these new methods. Specifically, I've taught my pupils to use colored pencils/highlighters and graphic organizers to track information and put it down on paper to aid in quicker recall and application. Along with encouraging my students to be organized, I've found success in teaching students and their parents to establish study schedules, which helps with effective time management and allows my young pupils to still enjoy the gross motor exercise that's so vital for their overall development. Most importantly, I focus on wielding these organizational techniques as a way to boost confidence and encourage a calm focus in students as they take their required state tests. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, yoga, weightlifting, being outdoors with my dog Tasha, and mountain biking with my husband.
