Experience
I am an experienced and patient tutor with a love for learning and a true passion for helping students achieve their potential. I am qualified in Educational Psychology and have taught in schools in England for many years before moving to the USA. I have extensive experience working with children who have additional learning needs/disabilities, especially in teaching children to read, those with dsylexia, dsycalculia and reading recovery. I tutor the following subjects: - High school - postgraduate Psychology, Sociology, Education and Social Sciences - Reading/writing/vocabularly K-8 -Study skills and organisation K-postgraduate I tutor in K-9 reading, writing, comprehension, vocab and spelling and used tried and tested international techniques that really work and get results. I also tutor maths for grades K-5 and Social Studies K-9. I prefer to tutor in your home, where the child feels comfortable, but other locations are available. I hope to get to know you and help you and your children achieve your hopes and dreams. I use a combination of methods to teach phonics, sight words and fluency. I use different approaches to help students become confident with reading and sounds. I use a staggered daily approach, and provide worksheets for use in the home on a daily basis as well as during tutorial sessions. I also believe that comprehension is an incredibly important part of the reading process, so I spend lots of time reading with the children I tutor and helping them develop an understanding of all types of writing and ways in which they can express that. I am an incredibly patient and encouraging tutor. Many of the children I work with are frustrated at what they experience in the classroom and can often be made to feel like they are failing. I use different techniques than teachers employ and spend time and energy with each child to ensure that they are enthusiastic and happy with their progress. I have worked with school and homeschool children and taught anything from whole curriculum to just reading or math.
