There is nothing better than seeing a student's face light up with they finally understand a concept. I have seven years of teaching experience with students from pre-k through 5th grade. I have my Masters degree in Early Reading and Literacy, my Undergrad degree in Early Childhood Education, and I just started my own tutoring business this past summer. To me, teaching is about the whole child. I believe it is important to know everything about my students from how they learn best to what they are passionate about. I also test each of my students to see which of the eight intelligences they are the smartest in. If a child is nature smart, I try to tailor my lessons to include time outdoors. If a child is picture smart, I create lessons that are visually stimulating. If a child is body smart, my lessons include plenty of movement. I am also passionate about parent communication and support. Teaching a child to read, although rewarding, can sometimes be a frustrating process. I offer full parental support, and work with parents to help them with homework, parent-school communication, and setting goals for their child. Communication is so important, so I make a point to meet with each student's classroom teacher to make sure school, home, and tutoring are all coincide. Tutoring sessions are planned to match what the classroom teacher is working on, and what ever other concepts the student needs.
