I completed the Advanced Japanese Language Course at Waseda University in Tokyo. This was designed to prepare foreign students to take college and post graduate level courses at Waseda. I also have a BSEE from Duke University.

Experience

I was editor and publisher of Mangajin, a magazine of Japanese pop culture and language learning. Mangajin used comics, cartoons, and graphic novels published in Japan, then added complete translations with detailed notes so that even a beginner could understand and enjoy entertaining material. Mangajin had subscribers at all major universities with Japanese Language Departments - Harvard, MIT, Georgetown, etc. Mangajin specialized in making even complex Japanese passages easily understandable. I became very proficient at explaining how Japanese was structured. I've also done thousands of pages of Japanese to English translation.
