Experience

Hey! I am a 27 year old student at Kennesaw State University. I am currently earning my Master of Science in Applied Statistics. I work as a GRA for the Stats department, teaching the research I do on outcomes for preterm infants. I finished my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Statistics in December 2014. My availability is mainly weekends or MWF, preferring lessons earlier on (around noon) or later in the evening, but I have some flexibility. I love helping people understand math! It is very rewarding to see something click with a student as a result of my teaching. In my experience many math teachers don't have the ability to explain things in multiple ways so that each student can understand. I think I am excellent at bridging that gap and coming up with ways for every student to grasp the material. I have tutored many students from elementary to college level. I have been a nanny/tutor for 10+ years, including a year spent abroad as a live-in nanny/tutor. Most of my tutoring jobs have been for high school and college students in various maths. In this instance I would normally spend our time going over homework they don't understand, prior tests to help find/fix fundamental errors that can be keeping them behind in the class, and finding similar problems to ones they struggle with for additional practice in those areas. As a live-in tutor, one child's main struggle was reading comprehension, so apart from her regular homework I found passages with comprehension questions as well as creative free response questions to keep her interested. She also struggled with spelling, so we would make flash cards with drawings on them and go over those daily, as well as having her make spelling "boats" by writing out the word. For example "flash": f fl fla flas flash then drawing a sailboat around the word. The other child struggled with math, particularly times tables, so I made a fun card game for us to play. For both children I set up a rewards system that kept them excited to learn and reinforced that they were succeeding. They both made dramatic improvements throughout the year, as noted by their teachers, parents, and other family members. I'm happy to tutor in most maths or assist in standardized test prep. I took the GRE in January 2015 and scored a 167 on the math portion. I took the ASVAB and scored a 97, my highest individual score being math. I have tutored for the math portion of the GMAT and raised my student's math score by 100 points. If the student (and parent) were not satisfied with the time we spent, I would not charge for the session(s)! Though I do not believe this will be an issue, I have only had completely positive feedback in the past! I prefer to tutor on Kennesaw's campus. I am flexible with time apart from when I am in class. Hope to hear from you!

Hobbies

I am very creative! While most people see math and arts separately, I believe they are very similar. Once you get past basic math you have to be creative and think in a different way than most people to be able to solve problems and explain how to get the solution to others. In my free time I love doing graphic design, playing my ukelele, and watching movies. I love cats and my two younger brothers.
